What is Rock Climbing?
To be able to carry out this activity, we must understand
what does rock climbing mean and its mission.
Rock climbing is a strenuous activity that requires
participants to climb up, down or across the natural rocks or man-made rock
walls. The goal for this activity is to challenge climbers to reach the
endpoint of the route without falling. There are few levels of difficulties in
rock climbing according to the shape of the rocks or the gradient of the wall.
The rock climbing competition often judges the participants by the difficulties
of the pre-defined route, the completing time or the distance of the route
completed. Strong hand muscles are necessary for climbers to sustain their own
bodyweight as well as to maintain balance.
Many think that rock-climbing activity is about physical
strength but mental strength is also important too. The strength, endurance,
agility, balance and mental strength are important in this activity so that
climbers would push themselves towards achieving the goal. New goal can be set
after achieving one too. However, without a proper technique or equipment used,
rock climbing would lead ones to injuries or even death. With good techniques,
correct equipment used and high self-discipline, rock climbing can bring a lot
of benefits to one’s health and reduces possible life-threatening risks. The
International Olympic Committee recognizes rock climbing as a sport. [1]
